Barefoot running and minimalist shoes for walkers and runners are the latest shoe (or no shoe) trends. Are they an injury risk? Dr. Derek Ochiai, Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in Sports Medicine, talked with me about what he has seen with the athletes he treats. "I don't see the people who are doing great in them. I do see a lot of people who get injuries when they switch to minimalist shoes." Common injuries he sees are stress fractures, back pain, and tendonitis.
