Does staying active into old age reduce your risk of Alzheimers disease and cognitive impairment? A study of 716 people of an average age of 82 had exciting results. It was the first larger study that actually measured daily physical activity using an actigraph, which is an activity monitor/pedometer worn on the wrist. Then they followed the subjects for 3.5 years. The 10% who got the least total daily activity were more than twice as likely to develop Alzheimers disease as the top 10% Intensity of physical activity may also be a positive factor. The bottom 10% for intense physical activity were almost three times more likely to develop Alzheimers disease at the top 10%
